All About Wondering in Room 114
This website is the culmination of our research unit. The students began with creating a modified KWL chart, exploring different topics that were of interest to them. After narrowing down their topics, they began taking notes. Their notes depended on their purpose and the type of text they were reading. They used boxes and bullets (like an outline), drew tables and charts, sketched diagrams, etc. Next, it was time to draft their text. We used Google Docs for this step, which allowed us to give feedback to the students on the document. Throughout the whole process, students kept track of their sources so that they could cite them on their web page.
Finally, it was time to design the web page. As digital writers, the students considered their audience and purpose. They went back to Wonderopolis again and again to help them make decisions about their own pages. You will notice the influence of Wonderopolis when you look at page arrangement, the inclusion of vocabulary and hyper-links. In addition, students chose images that would support their writing.
Miss Moore, Mrs. Brown, and I, Mrs. Johnson hope that you will take time to look at all the different pages. We are very proud of the work our students have done and we know you will be too.
